Frederick Marbury, affectionately known as "Big Fred," entered this world on June 30, 1947, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, born to the loving embrace of Nancy Marbury Blakemore and Frederick Gray.

On Friday, August 11, 2023, Frederick Marbury embarked on his final journey from his earthly residence.

Fred was a proud alumnus of Howard High School, graduating with the Class of 1966. He also served his nation as a dedicated member of the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, Fred embarked on a career with Alstom Power, eventually retiring to enjoy his well-earned leisure time.

His heart overflowed with love for his family, and he would move mountains to ensure their happiness. Fred's favorite pastimes included unwinding in front of the television and engaging in spirited card games with loved ones.

Frederick Marbury was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, as well as his dear sister, Cynthia Blakemore, and two brothers, Charles Marbury and James Blakemore. He also bid farewell to his devoted friend, Elizabeth Thornton.

Fred's legacy lives on through those who cherish his memory, including his two sons, Frederick (Aisha) Marbury of West Palm Beach, Florida and Marcell (Shay) Marbury of Chattanooga and his daughter, Melinda Marbury Austin of Chattanooga, He is survived by his sister, Clara Smith of Chattanooga, and three brothers, Robert Blakemore, Samuel Blakemore, and Nathan Blakemore, all of Chattanooga. Fred's impact continues through a vast extended family, including 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous other loved ones who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

In his earthly departure, Frederick Marbury leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment, and cherished memories that will be eternally celebrated by those who were fortunate to know him.

Public viewing will be held from 9-11 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, Sept. 14, in the chapel of the Funeral Home.

Interment will take place at Chattanooga National Cemetery with a 1 p.m. gate time with military honors.
