Robert “Bob” Hoover, 75, of Hixson, departed this life peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at CHI Memorial-Hixson Hospital, following years of battling cancer.

He was born May 12, 1948, to the late John C. and Loreen A. (Landis) Hoover in Warsaw, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela (Robert) Gearhart, Silver Lake, Indiana.

Bob is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 40 years, Jacqueline M., and daughter Alexandra M. (Anthony Brown) Hoover; and one sister Regina (Barry) Parker.

Mr. Hoover graduated from North Manchester High School, North Manchester, Indiana, Class of 1966. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam in the 82nd Airborne Infantry Division based out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was a Captain with the elite division specializing in joint forcible entry operations. He was a proud recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for his actions during the Vietnam War.

After the Vietnam War, Bob utilized the GI Bill and graduated from Indiana University with a BS in Business in 1976. He received his MBA from Frostburg State University, in Frostburg, Md. Shortly after receiving his MBA, he was hired by W.R. Grace Company (Davison Chemical Division) in 1982. He was employed with W. R. Grace Company for over 33 years. For many years he was the Plant Controller for the Chattanooga Plant (North Hawthorne Street), Aiken, SC (Kaolin Road), and Cincinnati, Ohio. During his career, he worked all over the world on assignments for accounting systems (SAP) and company acquisitions. He set up an operations center in Manila, Philippines, where he resided for several years. Later, he worked on an acquisition in Brisbane, Australia. Ending his career with W.R. Grace Company in 2015.

Bob was a member of Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church in Hixson. Bob was also a charter member (2004) of Sports Barn North where he enjoyed many mornings working out with his gym friends.

Growing up in Indiana Bob was a fan of Sea Hunt on television from 1958 and 1961 he dreamed of being able to someday be able to scuba-dive like Lloyd Bridges. This reality came true, and he became certified in 2006 and went on many diving trips in the Caribbean.

After retirement, he continued traveling and cruising. His most memorable cruises were through the Panama Canal, around South America and a wine tour on the Rhine River. Also, during his retirement, he became a Master Gardener of Tennessee and enjoyed volunteering with his wife and other members.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 18, at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, 848 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga. from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the church. The officiant will be The Very Right Rev. John H. Bonner III. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga.
