Helen Underwood Neville, 98, of Chattanooga died on October 1, 2024, at the Lantern Memory Care Facility in Collegedale, Tennessee.

She was born to Jesse and Mary Dean Underwood August 26, 1926 in Murfreesboro, Tn. As a young woman, she worked at the VA hospital in Nashville, Tn. While in Nashville, she met, then later married, Harold W. Neville, who was working for TVA. They were charter members of Glenwood Baptist Church. They had two boys while living in Nashville, Harold, Jr. and Randy. In the late 50s they moved to Murfreesboro and built a house in the Blackman community outside of town. They then had a daughter, Deanie. The family moved to Chattanooga in the mid-60s where the kids completed high school and launched their careers. After her husband passed on Thanksgiving weekend in 1975, Helen then worked for many years as a pre-school teacher at Red Bank Baptist Church. She was involved in many activities at the church and enjoyed traveling with friends and family.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Mary Dean Underwood; her four younger brothers; husband, Harold W. Neville Sr; and son, Harold W. Neville Jr.

She is survived by her son, Randy Neville (Jill); daughter, Deanie Head (Manning); grandchildren: Christopher Head (Allyson), Michael Helke (Sarah), Eric Helke; great-granddaughter, Madelyn Helke; and many nieces and nephews.

Viewing will be from 4–8 p.m. Thursday at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace. A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. CST on Friday in Roselawn Cemetery, Murfreesboro, Tn.
