Councilwoman Demetrus Coonrod expressed her excitement and gratitude regarding the long-awaited opening of Fire Hall Station 15, which will serve the Eastdale community. The state-of-the-art facility marks a significant step forward in ensuring the safety and well-being of Eastdale’s residents and surrounding communities, offering quicker response times, modern emergency services, and a critical support hub for the neighborhood.
“This is a monumental day for Eastdale,” said Councilwoman Coonrod. “The opening of Fire Hall Station 15 represents more than just a new building—it represents security, strength, and peace of mind for our entire community. I am incredibly proud to see this project come to life, and I know it will make a lasting impact for generations to come.”
In addition to celebrating the grand opening of the fire station, Councilwoman Coonrod emphasized her and Councilman Hester’s efforts to advocate for new opportunities for young people by lowering the minimum age to become a firefighter from 21 to 18. “This policy change opens doors for more of our young people who are passionate about serving their community,” she said. “Firefighting is not just a job—it’s a calling. By lowering the age, we are giving more young men and women the chance to step into that role earlier, begin their careers, and make a difference.”
Councilwoman Coonrod extended her heartfelt thanks to Mayor Tim Kelly and his administration for their unwavering support in bringing Station 15 to completion, as well as Chief Hyman, whose patience and dedication were instrumental throughout the entire process. She said, “Mayor Kelly and his team have been committed to the safety of Eastdale from the very start, and I’m grateful for his leadership in making this fire station a reality. Chief Hyman has been an absolute rock for this community—through every question, every concern, he remained dedicated to seeing this project through. We are so fortunate to have him and his incredible team of firefighters by our side.”
Fire Hall Station 15 is set to become a vital hub for not only emergency response but also community outreach and education. The station will provide a safe and secure environment for all residents, reinforcing the bond between the fire department and the people it serves. Councilwoman Coonrod emphasized the importance of Station 15. She said, “This station is not just a place where firefighters work—it’s a place where the community will come together, where families will feel protected, and where neighbors will find support in times of need. It is a true symbol of Eastdale’s resilience and unity.”
Fire Hall Station 15 will play a key role in building a safer, stronger, and more connected community. “I couldn’t be prouder to see these doors open today,” said Ms. Coonrod. “And with the recent change in firefighter age requirements, we are creating even more opportunities for our young people to serve and protect their community. This is a huge victory for Eastdale Neighborhood Association, and I look forward to all future investments in the community of Eastdale.”
