The Lee University chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the national education honor society, held its annual induction. Nine education majors were inducted during a ceremony with family, friends, and the Lee community in attendance.

The new inductees include Allie Elmore, Ethan Gallaher, Delaney Harris, Jessica "Ellie" James, Emma Lake, Jacob Link, Miya Palaganas, Emilee Perry and Sarah Beth Savell.

“My induction to Kappa Delta Pi enables me to continue pursuing my goal of excelling in education,” said Mr. Gallaher, a mathematics education major. “The KDP offers me excellent resources and connections that will launch me into my career, enabling me to succeed from the start. I am grateful to be part of a society that aims to see the flourishing of those in need through the advent of education, and I look forward to how I can contribute to the career of education with the support of Kappa Delta Pi.”

Dr. Trish McClung, former chair of the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Special Education Department at Lee, provided a keynote address. She spoke about her own experiences in the classroom and the impact they had on the educator she has become. Dr. McClung also gave testimonies speaking to the importance of teachers, offering inspiration to the attendees of the induction.

“Kappa Delta Pi is a community of current and future educators who pour into one another so that we may further our love of the profession,” said Ms.  Elmore, an English education major. “I hope to take advantage of the many classroom grants, community events, and resources that KDP holds to better myself for my future students and our classroom. I plan to teach at a school with lower-income (Title-1) students, and I am confident that this community will stand behind me in this, never failing to champion me throughout any trials that I, or my students, may face.”

Founded in 1911 with a mission to honor exceptional educators, KDP works to provide quality, equitable education for all by inspiring and supporting teachers.
