Norman Smith Faris, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on November 13, 2024, on Signal Mountain, Tennessee, at the age of 92.
Born on July 19,1932, in Birmingham, Al., Smith lived a life defined by dedication, kindness, and service to others.
Smith was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Judith Ellen Jones; his parents, Norman Smith Faris Sr. and Mae Dollar Faris; and his sisters, Margaret Chesser, Jackie Jones, and Betty Faris. He is survived by his loving son, James Norman Faris, and daughter-in-law, Nora Shuart-Faris. He will be deeply missed by his cherished grandchildren, Marrit Faris, Cason Faris, and August Faris, as well as his niece, Sandra Rowley, and many dear friends and colleagues.
A proud graduate of Auburn University, Smith earned a degree in industrial engineering before serving his country as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service, he used his entrepreneurial spirit to establish Signal Industrial Products.
Smith’s passions extended far beyond his professional accomplishments. An avid traveler, he loved to explore new places with friends and his wife Judy. Closer to home, he dedicated his time to supporting hospice organizations in Chattanooga.
An interment service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors.
