That burning smell around Bonny Oaks Drive Wednesday came from Walker Valley smokin' the nylon for the highest point total in program history.

The final day of the Silverdale Thanksgiving events proved by be the best for Walker Valley as the Mustangs completed a sweep of the three-day event, while the Lady Mustangs notched their second straight win.

Firing off 78 shots in three full quarters and a "running clock" fourth, Coach Will Campbell's unbeaten Stallions ripped the cords for 16 3-pointers during a 105-32 stampede over Sequatchie County, eclipsing the century mark for just the second time in their 24 seasons.

"I thought we did a really good job of moving the ball and being in good spots offensively," remarked wrangler Campbell. "We also were able to create a lot of turnovers and make it tough on them with our defensive energy.

"Overall I was happy that we played the way we wanted and didn’t get sloppy in such an uneven contest. Everyone got to play a good amount and everyone scored.

"I’m not sure if 16 3s is a record, but it’s gotta be close if not," added the man with 17 years on the Mustang bench.

The only other time Walker Valley reached triple figures was legendary Coach Bob Williams' Herd posting a 101-45 win over Hiwassee Dam, N.C., on Feb. 12, 2009.

The accomplishment becomes more impressive considering the Indians (3-2) put up 99, 83 and 75 points in their three victories.

After an 0-3 start to the season, Coach Paul Sausville's Lady Mustangs have gotten on track with wins over Tyner Academy Tuesday and Red Bank 53-39 Wednesday.
“Today was a great way to end a three day tournament," proclaimed Walker Valley girls assistant coach Sarah Sausville.

"These girls are learning, and every game it’s a chance for them to get better! I’m so proud of their effort and teamwork.”

After taking some time to be thankful, Walker Valley will get back to action with a pair of road trips next week, heading to Maryville Tuesday and East Hamilton Friday, Dec. 6.

Walker Valley continued the onslaught in the second frame with a 27-10 streak, with five more goals from "downtown," for a 48-point (66-18) halftime advantage.

With Sequatchie County head coach Bryn Hobbs declining the option of starting the "running clock" for the third quarter, the hot-handed Mustangs continued the sizzle the nylon for a 23-11 run .
