In a battle of defending state champions, McCallie blew past Hebron Christian Academy from Dacula, Georgia, by a final score of 24-8. The defending Tennessee Division II-AAA champs shut down the Lions offense, holding last year’s Georgia 2A Private School champs to just 54 yards of total offense.
The Blue Tornado was led by senior quarterback Elliott Drapeau’s 101 passing yards and running back Xavier Fillion, who ran for 86 yards on 19carries.
McCallie jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead as Loia Valade returned an interception 50 yards for a scre at the 10:05 mark. With 4:44 left in the opening stanza Keeyshawn Tabuteau hauled in a Drapeau pass for a 38 yard touchdown strike. Kris Lloyd added a Blue Tornado score with 5:30 remaining in the first half, running for a 3-yard score.
Ben Brewer closed out the home team’s scoring with a 22-yard field goal at the 11:58 mark of the fourth quarter. Hebron avoided the shut out when Austen Kitchings caught a Jordan Greene pass for 33 yards and a score with 5:04 left in the game.
Tanner Bowen led the McCallie (2-0) defense with seven solo tackles, while Jack Mostiler, Max Steve, Albert Wilham and Masen Hardy each tallied five stops.
Next up for the Blue Tornado is a home game against visiting Father Ryan net Friday night.
