Connor Jenne and Cannon Rogers hooked up for a 40-yard scoring strike in the first quarter and Silverdale’s defense shut down South Pittsburg the rest of the way giving the Seahawks their first-ever win over the Pirates and handing the 2024 Class 1A runners-up their first home loss since 2004, 10-0. Kicker Jack Mauser iced the cake with a 33-yard field goal midway through the final quarter.
Silverdale’s Cody Davenport had a breakout night, rushing for 163 yards on 33 carries. Rogers hauled in eight passes for 85 yards and Jenne was 12 of 23 for 104 yards with two picks as the Seahawks (1-1) bounced back from a tough last minute 25-24 loss to Tyner the week before.
South Pittsburg’s (1-1) offense struggled to pick up any rhythm as Silverdale's defense held them to just 147 yards of total offense with quarterback Caden Jones accounting for 55 yards on a seven of 23 night. JaMychal Buckner le the Pirate ground attack with 63 yards on 13 carries.
Defensively, the Seahawks were paced by Garret Moser’s eight solo tackles. Tanner Bayne and Talan Butterworth had five stops apiece with Bayne recording a sack for a five-yard loss.
Next week Silverdale hosts Knox Webb (0-2) in a Division II-AA East Region contest, while South Pittsburg is on the road to face a tough 2-0 Sequatchie Co. team.
