Carole Ann Rhodes
Following a lengthy battle with dementia, Carole Ann Rhodes, 86, passed away on November 3, 2024, at Rosewood Assisted Living Center, Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Carole was born July 9, 1938 in Cambridge, England, the second oldest of five children. She met her future husband, Freddie Rhodes, at a local dance in Cambridge while he was stationed there with the U.S. Air Force. After their marriage in England, they were stationed in Greenville, SC where their two sons were born. They were then stationed back in the UK where their daughter was born. After several other military moves and retirement, they settled down in Fort Oglethorpe where Freddie had family ties. She became active in her community serving as a Pink Lady volunteer for many years at Hutcheson Hospital. The English Wives Club was also a passion of hers and she was a member for many years. This gave her great joy as she could develop lifelong friendships with other English women who had moved to the U.S.
She was a loving wife and devoted mother. Known for her quiet, demure personality, Carole was the epitome of a British lady, who was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her sons, Richard (Debra) Rhodes and Ken (Terrie) Rhodes, and daughter Dawn Rhodes; five grandchildren: Stephanie (Jacob) Sanders, BK Huddleston, Hannah (Josh) Myers, Drew Rhodes, and Adam (Jacque) Rhodes; and four great-grandchildren – Kelly Sanders, Austin Sanders, James Rhodes, and Natalie Rhodes. She is survived by siblings, Colin (Hazel) Butler of Victoria, Australia, Janet (Francis) Taylor of England, and Graham (Jane) Butler of England; and her dear friend since childhood, Shiela (Pat) Garrett of Cambridge, England.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Freddie Rhodes; parents, Sidney and Edith Butler, and sister Barbara Copeland.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Rosewood Assisted Living Center for the loving care she received while a resident there. We would also like to thank the Hearth Hospice care team for the compassion and care our mother received from them.
