George W. Haynes, Jr.

George W. Haynes, Jr., 96, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on his birthday, November 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

George was born on Nov. 2, 1928, in Murfreesboro, Tn., to the late George W. Haynes, Sr., and Rosa Wade Haynes. He attended Holloway High in Murfreesboro, a city he cherished and where he spent the majority of his life, living there for 71 years.

A devoted member of Stones River United Methodist Church, George served faithfully as a steward and actively participated in the bus ministry. His professional life was spent in aviation, where he worked for Textron Aviation in Nashville for over 40 years before retiring.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Forestine Haynes; his children, Michael Odom, Emily (Kiley) Maupin, and Joseph Watson; his stepchildren, Dionne, Kathy, and JJ; and special godsons, James Bingham and DeWayne Berry. He will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family and his dedication to his church.

Services to celebrate George's life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Ponders Brainerd Chapel, located at 4203 Brainerd Road, Chattanooga.

Visitation will be from 12-1 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1 p.m., with Reverend Michael Odom officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ponders Brainerd Chapel, 4203 Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN, 37411.
