Samuel Patterson "Pat" Woolsey
Samuel Patterson "Pat" Woolsey, beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach, teacher and friend passed away on Monday, November 18, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 76.
Pat grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee where he attended the McCallie School excelling in football, basketball, baseball, track, and tennis. He continued his athletic career playing basketball and baseball for the University of Tennessee Chattanooga and was inducted into the UTC athletic hall of fame in 2002.
Pat’s affection for sports and desire to inspire the next generation lead him into a lifelong career as a math teacher and coach. He taught Algebra to thousands of students and mentored many successful players winning championships in girls fast pitch softball for Chattanooga Central and in baseball for Montgomery Bell Academy where he spent over half of his 40-year career. After retirement, Pat stayed active in his love of sports by working the shot clock for Vanderbilt basketball and keeping the pitching clock for the Nashville Sounds.
Pat is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jane Woolsey, as well as children, Laura (Eric Keller) Willett, Matthew (Katharine) Woolsey, and Chris (Christen) Woolsey and four grandkids, Grace, Jackson, Christian and Cameron.
A service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. at Montgomery Bell Academy, 4001 Harding Pike, Nashville, TN, 37205 in the dining hall.
