Thomas Eugene “Gene” Jeffery
Thomas Eugene “Gene” Jeffery, 87, was called home on December 23, 2024. He was born on July 23, 1937 to James Russell Jeffery, Sr. and Nora Mae Woody Jeffery in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James “Jim” R. Jeffery, Sr. and Nora Mae Jeffery, brothers, J. R. Jeffery, Jr. (Nelda Jean) and Harold Edgar Jeffery (Virginia).
Left behind to treasure his memory is his wife of 68 years Joan Barry Jeffery; daughter, Belinda Daniel (Bryan); son, Barry Jeffery (Donna), Grandchildren, Derek Daniel (Jennifer), David Jeffery (Mae), Bethany McCrary (Taylor), Matthew Jeffery (Katy) and Sarah Birdwell (Michael); great-grandchildren, Ben Daniel, Chase Daniel, Ryan Daniel, Tyler Daniel, Cooper Jeffery, Bowan Birdwell, Callan Jeffery, Hampton Jeffery, Carter Birdwell, Samantha McCrary, Woods Jeffery and Ada Birdwell; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gene attended City High School and lived his childhood in Chattanooga. He was a plant operator for NCG and Chemtron in Chattanooga for 32 years and lived in Fort Oglethorpe. Gene and Joan moved to Winchester, Tn. and he retired from ADC at Arnold Air Force Station in Tullahoma after 12 years as an operator. They returned to Rossville, for 23 years before moving to Morning Pointe at Shallowford for the last two years. Gene was a member of the Alhambra Shrine Temple where he was a part of the Roadrunner Bus Unit and was a member of Tompkins Lodge # 466 F&AM. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Chattanooga. Gene enjoyed golf, Tennessee Vol Football and being with friends and family.
The family will receive friends from 12–2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Home, 404 South Moore Road. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Eric Johnson, Rev. Bryan Daniel and Barry Jeffery officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
