Kim Gorgens
Southern Adventist University announces professor Kim Gorgens, PhD, will present “Caring for
Injured Brains” as an overview of mild traumatic brain injury and the science of concussions on
Thursday, Feb. 29, at 11 a.m. in Iles P.E. Center, as part of the Schutte Family Lecture Series
on campus.
Dr. Gorgens will highlight novel data from a study of high school, college and retired athletes and also advise about the most adverse outcomes in education and criminal justice.
Additionally, she will present new insights from a collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and tangible takeaways for brain health before taking questions from the audience.
Professor of psychophysiology, clinical neuropsychology and psychology of criminal behavior at the University of Denver in Colorado, Dr.
Gorgens manages a large portfolio of brain injury research, and has lectured extensively around the world. Her 2010 and 2018 TED talks on youth sports concussions and brain injuries in criminal justice have been viewed by millions, as have her interviews on CNN, NPR and 20/20. Her research studies the reported injury history, cognitive function and brain biomarkers of all vulnerable populations, including young and older athletes, probationers and inmates, persons who are homeless, and women who have been exposed to
interpersonal violence.
