Esther B. Clemmons, 100, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024.

She was born in Cornelia, Ga., on Aug. 11,1923, to Lowery L. and Corine P. Bennett. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Harry E. Clemmons; brother Harold W. Bennett, Hoschton, Ga.; sister, Sue B. Platt, Chattanooga; three daughters: Vivian (Jerry) Elimini, Hollywood, Fl., Nancy (Robert) Pahl, Woodstock, Ga., Pat (Herman) Carlan, Clarkesville, Ga.

Esther is survived by her sister, Carolyn Veal Flowery Branch, Ga., son, Larry (Sharon) Clemmons, Chattanooga; her grandchildren, Kelley (Ronald) Barnes, Laurens, SC, Douglas (Deani) Pahl, Columbus, Ga., Kinley Clemmons, LaGrange, Ga., Christopher Pahl, Dunwoody, Ga., and Allison (Tab) Morrison, Chattanooga; four great-grandchildren: Hadley Morrison and Jake Morrison, Chattanooga, and Ava Pahl and Wes Pahl, Columbus, Ga.

Esther spent most of her working career with Sears in Atlanta and when she moved to Chattanooga in 1953, she continued her career with Sears as manager of the radio and record department. She worked in the office of Chattanooga Ophthalmologist, Dr. David Turner, for 17 years. Esther was a member of the American Business Women's Association, and treasurer of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority, Alpha Xi chapter.

Esther had a servant’s heart. For 15 years, she could be found volunteering her time six days a week at the Ladies of Charity/Greater Good Thrift Store. She also gave her time at the North River YMCA, the Northside Neighborhood Store, Red Bank, as well as delivering meals to shut-ins.

Esther was a Christian a member of the Red Bank United Methodist Church. She had a smile that would light up any room and was a wonderful friend and neighbor to all who knew her. As a loving mother and grandmother, she took great pride in her loved ones near and far. She was the happiest with her television tuned in to a Braves game, working a jigsaw puzzle, playing Bunco with friends, traveling or simply enjoying her garden and beautiful flowers.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 1, at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, with Esther’s Celebration of Life in the Coulter Chapel at 1 p.m.

Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Ken Sauer, Pastor Red Bank United Methodist Church, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Red Bank United Methodist Church.
