Thomas DeWayne Jones, also known as “Big Drip”, passed away on February 14, 2024, at his home in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

He was born on January 20, 1994, to Tracie Brogden in Chattanooga.

Thomas was a graduate of Howard High School of Academics and Technology. He was also part of the JROTC, and a member of the marching band under Mr. Bell. He was one of the best trumpet players for the school.

Thomas was employed by American Display and Fixture as a forklift driver. He also previously worked at Orange Grove Center as a case manager.

Thomas loved listening to and creating music. One of his greatest pleasures was listening to notable bands. This included Tennessee State University Aristocratic Band in Nashville.

He graduated magna cum laude from Tennessee State University in Nashville. Thomas was the second in his family to attend and graduate college with a Bachelor of Science in liberal arts. Thomas was a prestigious member of the Collegiate 100: Collegiate Black Men of America. He was section leader of the trumpet line for the Aristocratic Band at TSU. He was a member of the prestigious Theta Tau chapter Kappa Pi International Art Honor Society.

Thomas performed with and helped others find and hone their craft with playing trumpet. He often was found sitting in his room playing trumpet and tapping on his drummer’s pad. Becoming a first time father of Kaysyn Jones was his entire world.

He was a creative artist who loved drawing and painting. He also loved traveling and spending time with loved ones and enjoying all things Kaysyn.

He was hard-working, giving, passionate, funny, silly and at the same time nonsensical.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Johnny J McCallum; great grandfather, Ervin Brogden; step grandmother, Pearl Brogden and an uncle, Toure' Brogden.

He leaves to cherish precious memories, his mother, Tracie R Brogden; son, Kaysyn Jones; sister, Terri Brogden-Franklin (Thomas. Jr); niece, Teija Franklin; grandmother, Bettye Brogden, uncles, Trevor L Brogden (Beasley) and Tyrone “Turk” Brogden; cousins, Terance Dillard and Patrice Brogden; special friend, Rahkiyah Kelly; uncle; a host of other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29, at the funeral home followed by a 1:30 p.m. graveside service at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 423 622-9995.
