Penny Lane Miller, 89, died on March 27, 2024, after a long illness. Our mother now rests in Heaven, free from disease.

Ms. Miller was born in Charleston, Tn. Her birth name was Betty Joe Florence Guess. Ms. Miller was a prominent businesswoman and restaurant owner in Cleveland, Tn., during the late 70s and 80s. She loved to cook and spent most of her later years watching her beloved “hummers.” Ms. Miller retired from nursing after working in Florida and the Chattanooga area as an LPN.

Ms. Miller was preceded in death by her parents, Taylor Ambrose Guess and Joe Florence Ailey Guess, along with five siblings.

Her survivors include her children: Lynda McConnell Gooden (Tommy), Debra McConnell Perin (Al) and James Richard McConnell (Joy). She had three grandchildren, one great granddaughter, four step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren.

Ms. Miller spent her later years living in Hixson. The family extends a special thanks to the staff of The Regency House for their very special care and attention to her. Thanks goes to the Alexian PACE program and to Companion Funeral Home for their care and services.

The family will have a private burial in the near future. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to The Regency House in Ms. Miller’s name at 2062 Hamill Road, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
