UTC Women Set To Defend SoCon Golf Championship

  • Saturday, April 13, 2024
The drive for six starts Sunday for the Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team. The ladies tee off Moss Creek Golf Course tackling a 9-team field and the south tract at the Southern Conference Championships.

It’s a youthful group taking center stage. Just sophomore Kera Healey (3 rounds) and junior Nieves Martin (1) have conference championship experience. Coach Colette Murray spoke about that and other topics at her press conference Thursday in advance of the tourney.

Six Mocs climbed into the van Friday morning for the journey readying for Saturday’s practice round.
Regular starters Violeta Fernandez-Tagle (Fr.), Makenzie Cooper (So.), Giulia Foresta (Fr.), Healey and Martin are joined by junior Alexis Daniel. The format is five compete with four scores counting with the opportunity to sub out an alternate sixth player on the trip.

It is the 10th year Moss Creek hosts the event. The Mocs have five team wins, three runners-up and five medalists over the prior nine trips to Hilton Head.

The tournament begins Sunday with 18 holes per day until the final round is complete on Tuesday.
