Marjorie Daugherty Webb of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the age of 98.

She was born December 13, 1925, to Joy Manning Daugherty and Dennis Houston Daugherty in Chattanooga. She was the oldest of three children and a graduate of Chattanooga Central High School.

After graduation in 1943, she took the Civil Service Test, and got a job at Fort Oglethorpe (Army Base) in Civilian Personnel. She remained at Fort Oglethorpe until she married.

Marjorie married Robert Bell Webb, Jr. (Bob) of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in Chattanooga on Nov. 27, 1946. Later together they made a joint decision to join the ministry. Marjorie made a great contribution to this ministry as she was always ready to assist as an organist, youth choir director, Vacation Bible School organizer, and Sunday School teacher. Marjorie provided a warm home environment which was shared with young soldiers, chaplains, and friends.

Marjorie wants to be remembered as an Army Wife. She followed Bob throughout his career to: Fort Rucker, AL; Butzbach, Germany; Norfolk, VA; Fort Gulick, Panama Canal Zone; Fort Knox, KY; Fort McPherson, GA; Rockville, MD (Bob at National Institutes of Health); Fort Sam Houston, TX; Fort Lewis, WA; and Chattanooga upon Bob’s retirement.

Marjorie lived in Chattanooga until April 12, 2020, when her home was destroyed by a tornado; she survived and moved to Knoxville with her daughter Joy until she moved into assisted living. She has been a resident at Atria Weston Place for the past few years.

Mrs. Webb is preceded in death by her parents, Joy Manning Daugherty and Dennis Houston Daugherty. A brother, Dennis Houston Daugherty, Jr., a sister, Edith Woolbright; her granddaughters, Victoria Devon Wedick and Jennifer Lynn Carleston.

She is survived by her children, Deborah (Frank) Wedick of San Diego, CA, Joy (Lee) Carleston of San Antonio, TX, and Bart (Kathy Bussert-Webb) Webb of Brownsville, TX; grandchildren, Nicole (Kartik Ragupathi) Wedick of San Diego, CA, John (Heather) Carleston of San Antonio, TX, and Katrina Cielo Webb of Lubbock, TX; great grandchildren, Declan Carleston and Evelynn Carleston of San Antonio, TX, and Sahana Wedick of San Diego.
