Covenant Baseball Loses 17-7 To Berry

After a big series win over LaGrange, the Covenant baseball team resumed play with a battle against Berry. The Scots never fully recovered from a big first-inning deficit which led to its second defeat to Berry in seven days.

Final: Covenant 7, Berry 17 The Vikings' offense came out ready to rock in the first inning as they scored seven runs on five hits, two walks, and one error. Kenny Mills put Covenant on the board in the bottom of the frame with a RBI single through the right side before Kolby Kimberly scored a run despite grounding into a double play.

Berry made it 9-2 in the second inning with a bases-loaded walk and a RBI groundout to third base. Mills did some damage again with his bat, driving a 2-RBI double to left-center field in the third inning. He later scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-5. A six-run sixth inning for Berry to make it 15-5 was started with a leadoff home run from Riley Uhls. The Vikings sent 10 batters to the plate in the frame.

Berry scored its 16th and 17th runs of the day in the seventh inning via a RBI single and a wild pitch. Coming in as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning, Jackson Smith crushed his first-career home run, a 2-run shot to left field.

Covenant moves to 7-34 all-time against Berry. The Vikings outhit the Scots 15-10. Covenant committed two errors while Berry had none. Zeke Gilbert (2-for-3), Chris Savage (2-for-3), and Mills (2-for-3, 3 RBI) led the Scots offensively.

Covenant used seven different pitchers with LHP Austin Clark (2 IP, 2 H, 0 R) pitching the most innings out of anyone.

Covenant resumes conference play on Friday at 3 p.m. against Belhaven at home.
