CSCC Announces 100% Pass Rate On EMT & AEMT Exams

  • Tuesday, May 21, 2024
Cleveland State Community College announces the achievement of a 100 percent pass rate on the skills portion of the national registry exams by students in the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) classes.

All 11 EMT students scored 100 percdent on the Tennessee Department of Health Practical. These students must also complete the comprehensive exam in order to receive their Tennessee EMT license and then begin careers in the emergency medical services (EMS) field.

All eight AEMT students scored 100 percent on the National Registry AEMT Psychomotor Exam.
The majority of these students are working as EMTs with Bradley County EMS, Hamilton County EMS or Rhea County EMS while taking the course, and five students will continue to the paramedic program at the college.

“We strive hard to give these students the material and skills to go out and take care of your family, if the need ever arises,” said Devette Carter, EMS Program director. “It is a very stressful day for the students; they perform skills in front of new faces and are graded. They met the challenge head on and did amazing!  In EMS,  these students will be challenged regularly, and we are very proud of each and every one of them.”

The EMS program is offered at the main campus in Cleveland and the McMinn Higher Education Center in Athens. Devette Carter, David Burdett, Christy Harden and Jada Stewart are the instructors for this program.

Sandra Godsey, dean of Business and Health Professions, said, “We have a dynamic team of faculty, full-time and adjunct, who ensure quality education and skill training. We are so excited and proud of the EMS Program at Cleveland State.”

Graduates in the EMS field can find employment with fire departments, police departments, hospitals or ambulance services. The 16-hour program at Cleveland State is offered in the fall and spring semesters. For more information, email ems@clevelandstatecc.edu or call 423-473-2337.
