McLemore, the golf club and community located atop Lookout Mountain in Northwest Georgia, announces its championship Highlands Course has been recognized by Golfweek in their latest rankings of the “Best Public-Access Golf Courses by State” and Golf Digest’s ‘America’s 100 Greatest Golf Holes’.
Presenting the top public access courses in each state, the Golfweek rankings saw the Highlands Course rise to No. 3 in the state of Georgia – the highest ranking for the mountaintop layout since its debut at T4 in the 2021 rankings.
Designed by Rees Jones and Bill Bergin, the Highlands Course improved upon its No. 4 ranking from 2023 and is now behind only the Seaside Course at Sea Island and the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Golfweek’s ranking of the top public-access golf courses in Georgia.
Additionally, the famed finishing hole at the Highlands Course was named the 22nd-best hole in America by Golf Digest. According to the rankings, the cliffside par-4 eighteenth was named the best hole in the state of Georgia and the third-best in the Southeast.
“It is an honor to see the Highlands Course held in such high regard by the rankings of both of these renowned publications,” says Duane Horton, president of Scenic Land Company, the developer of McLemore. “We take great pride in providing our members and guests with a world-class golf experience, and recognition such as these affirm McLemore’s standing among the top golf destinations in Georgia and beyond.”
For those looking to experience all that the mountaintop club and resort has to offer, McLemore welcomes non-members to join the Friends of McLemore program. This invitation extended offers limited access to the club’s Highlands Course, clubhouse dining at The Creag restaurant and bar, and luxurious accommodations on the beautiful mountaintop property. Friends of McLemore can book one tee time per season (four per year) with up to three guests per round. Friends also receive access to McLemore’s six-hole short course, The Cairn, and pristine practice facilities, as well as priority access to special events, offers and invitations. There are no initiation fees or monthly dues required to become a Friend of McLemore.
Friends of McLemore are also invited to take part in the 2024 Friends Open, qualifying for which is already underway. The annual golf tournament for members of the Friends of McLemore program, the Friends Open consists of monthly qualifying rounds beginning in April and through September at the Highlands Course. The top teams from each qualifier will earn a place in the final round on Oct. 14.
In addition to the Highlands Course, McLemore recently began construction on a second championship golf course known as The Keep. Opening this fall, the mountaintop headlands course is an example of what it means to play golf ‘above the clouds’. The Keep features five cliffside holes overlooking McLemore Cove that present golfers with breathtaking vantage points at every turn.
Situated in the mountains of Northwest Georgia, McLemore’s lifestyle attracts families who prefer to enjoy life “above the clouds.” Residences at McLemore are next-level, featuring custom-designed homes connecting with the spectacular natural beauty and breathtaking views. The club offers corporate and individual memberships with different categories built within each, and unique member events ranging from culinary to music, said officials.
In February McLemore introduced Cloudland – a marquee Curio Collection by Hilton Resort perched atop Lookout Mountain with views of the surrounding North Georgia mountains. Considered the Southeast’s most anticipated hotel opening, the luxury resort property offers 245 guest rooms, including 19 suites and 20,000 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting and event space.
At Cloudland, guests can enjoy a range of amenities including four restaurants, a cliff-edge infinity pool, access to McLemore’s two golf courses (The Highlands Course and The Cairn short course), and a full-service spa, along with endless opportunities to explore Lookout Mountain and surrounding areas.
