After 50 years working in the offices of Highland Park Baptist Church and its successor, the Church of the Highlands, Betty Stiles is retiring at the end of June.

Mrs. Stiles was honored Sunday during the morning service at the Church of the Highlands in Harrison.

Pastor Scott McCurdy said, “Betty has touched thousands of lives. She’s been a real blessing to all of us and leaves a great legacy.”

Mrs. Stiles came to Tennessee Temple University in 1958 as a student. She said, “I always wanted to be a church secretary and the Lord fulfilled that desire.”

Mrs. Styles said she volunteered on the annual staff and that’s where she met her husband, Dr. Roger Stiles, who was the director. Their first date was attending one of HPBC’s worship services. The Stiles celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 6.

They have three children, seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Dr. Stiles is a past president and professor at Tennessee Temple University.

Mrs. Stiles worked with five pastors - Dr. Lee Roberson, Dr. Don Jennings, Dr. David Bouler, Dr. Jeremy Roberts and the current pastor, Rev. Scott McCurdy.

Mrs. Stiles said, “Serving in this ministry is one of the great privileges of my life. I have so many wonderful memories of this ministry and the people I’ve worked with; I’m not going away and will still be around to help.”
