The Master Gardeners of Hamilton County (MGHC), in association with the University of Tennessee Extension, continue its third Saturday Free Gardening Classes on Saturday, at 10 a.m., with “Planting Cool-Season Crops” presented by Master Gardener Diane Shelly.
MGHC’s Third Saturday Gardening Classes take place at the UT/TSU Hamilton County Extension Center, 6183 Adamson Circle, off Bonny Oaks Drive in Chattanooga. Advance registration is requested. To register in advance, https://mghc.org/calendar/3rd-saturday-class-time-to-sow-cool-season-crops/
Master Gardener Diane Shelly said, “While it may seem counter-intuitive to be planting cool-season crops during these hot July days, this is exactly when it needs to be done in order to harvest yummy produce in late fall and early winter. Many vegetables — beets, broccoli, carrots, radishes, kale and lettuces — are sweeter when grown in cool weather! In this class you’ll learn what to do step by step from selecting seeds to starting them in the right conditions, and to transplanting them in outdoor beds or containers. You’ll even create your own little seedling pack to take home and plant outside when the time is right.”
Celebrating 30th years of educations and service in 2024, the Master Gardeners of Hamilton County (MGHC), a nonprofit, educational, volunteer organization, has played an important role in the civic life of Chattanooga and the surrounding area.
