The World’s Longest Yard sale on Highway 127 is now underway through Sunday. It’s literally the World’s Longest Yard Sale whose route spans six states (Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama) and is 690 miles long.
This unique event draws hundreds of thousands of people (shoppers and vendors) each year from all around the country.
The event began in 1987 when several officials, including Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau Chief Bob Elmore, planned a weekend to encourage travelers to bypass the interstate highways in favor of scenic routes that would take them through rural communities and experience what small towns and communities have to offer. Visitors from all over the country, as well as the locals, enjoy both the yard sales and attractions along the 127 yard sale.
Since the very beginning a popular stretch has been Highway 127 over Signal Mountain, thru Dunlap and onto Pikeville.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is urging everyone to use extreme caution when looking for those treasures.
