Erlanger Center For Breast Health Receives National Accreditation

  • Thursday, August 8, 2024
The Erlanger Center for Breast Health received a three-year full reaccreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.

Officials said, "Erlanger is the only NAPBC-accredited program in the region. Since earning initial accreditation in 2018, the Erlanger Center for Breast Health has continuously earned reaccreditation at each checkpoint. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.
During the survey process, the center must demonstrate compliance with standards established by the NAPBC. A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease. Erlanger’s accreditation applies to Erlanger Baroness Hospital, Erlanger East Hospital, and Erlanger North Hospital – the only accredited breast centers in the region."

“Our comprehensive, dedicated team provides care for the whole patient, from state-of-the-art imaging to complex surgery to needed support services,” said Beth Snell, MD, medical director at Erlanger Center for Breast Health. “A patient with breast cancer who is under the care of a well-coordinated team receives prompt care, is more likely to complete therapy, and is generally more satisfied with care. Receiving this reaccreditation from NAPBC and being the only accredited program in the area highlights the Erlanger team’s dedication to improving care for women in our community.”

Officials said, "Erlanger’s convenient breast imaging locations offer the latest treatment and imaging technologies and services, including breast biopsy, imaging, genetic testing and counseling for women with a family or personal history of breast cancer, lumpectomy, mammography, mastectomy and breast reconstruction and diagnosis and treatment of noncancerous conditions. The center provides a comprehensive, supportive team for patients throughout their journey with breast cancer navigators who provide guidance and emotional support throughout treatment.

"According to the NAPBC, receiving care at an accredited center ensures that a patient will have access to comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services, a multidisciplinary team approach to coordinating the best treatment options, information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options, and most importantly, quality breast care close to home. Erlanger is one of 382 accredited hospitals across the country and one of only seven in the state of Tennessee."
