Covenant Men Lose 3-0 At Oglethorpe

  • Wednesday, September 18, 2024

The Covenant College men's soccer team battled Oglethorpe last night for its first of three games this week against in-state opposition. The Scots didn't have their best stuff though as they were shutout by the Stormy Petrels 3-0

Oglethorpe took the lead in the 28th minute as Adrian Levy scored off a cross from Dylan Bapst from the left side of the field.  Less than a minute before halftime, the Stormy Petrels doubled their lead as Javier Aponte converted a goal after a long ball from Bapst. Covenant's offense was limited to no shots and one corner kick in the first half.

Fox Landgren had two shots saved by the Oglethorpe keeper in the 53rd and 54th minute.
Oglethorpe made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute as Aaron Ibe pounced on a turnover by the Covenant goalkeeper and fired his shot into an open net. Kade Theunissen and Ty Morgan both had shots for the Scots in the final 25 minutes, but both were off target.

Covenant moves to 6-5-2 all-time against Oglethorpe. Oglethorpe outshot Covenant 10-5 and had a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. Both teams committed eight fouls and had two corner kicks.

The Scots visit Berry on Friday night at 7 p.m.
