It is with profound sorrow that the family of John William Parsons must announce his premature passing after complications following surgery for esophageal cancer on September 20, 2024 at Erlanger Hospital.

Born in Birmingham, Al., on July 29, 1964, John was an avid hiker and backpacker, talented artist in a variety of media, and journeyman plumber who held membership in Chattanooga Local 43 for 40 years.

John was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, and grandfather. He will forever be cherished in the hearts of his mother and step-father, Virginia and Pete Tukker, his step-mother, Linda Parsons, his sister and brother-in-law, Penny and Roby Chaney, and his brother, Wade Parsons. His grandchildren, Stephanie (Reuben) Lawson and Austin Laymon, and great-granddaughter, Kora, will miss their Papa John immensely. John was preceded in passing by his much-loved wife of 33 years, Nancy Parsons, his loving father, Jay Parsons, and his beloved dog, Bailey. His loss will be mourned by his extended family, many loving friends, and various acquaintances and strangers who were touched by his warm heart, playful humor, and generous and giving spirit.

We invite those whose lives he touched to join us in honoring his life at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel on Oct. 5, from 1-3 p.m.

Should family and friends desire, memorial contributions can be made in John's name to the U.S. Forest Service Plant-a-Tree Program, or your favorite nature conservation organization, or simply by getting out and enjoying the wild yourself (maybe even barefooting it).

John, we will willingly endure a lifetime of missing you for the privilege of having loved and been loved by you.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
