Retired Educator Was Avid Music Lover And Had A Loving Personality

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Constance Nadine Martin, affectionately known as “Connie,” who peacefully departed this life on January 7, 2025, in New York City, New York.

Born on March 2, 1941, in Chattanooga, Connie was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend to many. Connie was a graduate of the 1959 Class of Howard High School.

Connie was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Ruby and John D. Wooden, father, Samuel Evans, her son, Effrem Van Ran Martin, and her brother, George Anthony Evans.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving son, Darryl Martin; her adoring granddaughter, LaKeya Blyden-Talley (New York); her great-granddaughters, LaRaya Lewis, Keya Monie Talley, Najah Talley, and great great-grandson Kamanhi Talley, all of New York ; and a host of family and friends.

Connie is also survived by her siblings: Marva Jane (James) Smith of Chattanooga; Nellie (Freddie, deceased) Warren II of Chattanooga; Samilla (Otheller,)Turner of Jacksonville, Fl.; Christy (Shakir) Rashed of Chattanooga; Vaughn (Debbie) Evans of Sacramento, Ca.; and Kenneth (Jackie) Evans of Riverdale, Ga. She will be deeply missed by her sister-in-law, Linda (George, deceased) Evans, as well as her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Connie accepted Christ at an early age under the pastorage of J.C. Bonner, III in Chattanooga. She lived a life filled with faith, love, and joy. Connie was a retired public schools educator of the Nassau County School System in New York. An avid music lover with a beautiful singing voice, Connie’s love for music was only matched by her passion for travel and her impeccable sense of fashion. She always ensured her granddaughters shared in her couture style, reflecting her elegance and flair for life.

Known for her warmth, kindness, and infectious smile, Connie had a loving personality that drew people to her. She was the heart of her family and leaves behind a legacy of love, grace, and strength. God truly blessed her family by sharing her with them, and her presence will be profoundly missed.

A celebration of Connie's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will come together to honor the beautiful life she lived.
