Omah Laurette Romanchick, 98, of Chattanooga, passed away on January 5, 2025.

Omah was born in Chattanooga on Feb. 5, 1926, to the late Boyce Campbell Sexton and Lula Shields Sexton.

Omah supervised telephone operators for the phone company during World War II in Chattanooga. She often liked to tell people that she was one of the first people to know that WWII was over, because it came through her telephone system. Previous to having children, she worked in the accounting department at Provident Life Insurance Company in Chattanooga.

Along with her husband, Joe, she owned and operated North Georgia Lumber and Supply Company in Fort Oglethorpe, in the 1960s. They also owned several apartments in Fort Oglethorpe for over two decades and were known by many in the community.

Omah also spent many years volunteering to perform office functions and help produce bulletins for McFarland United Methodist Church in Rossville.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband, Joseph Romanchick; daughter, Cynthia Romanchick; half brother, Robert Sexton; sister, Rebecca Lindner (Fred); and sister, Tommie Raines.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Steve Roman; sister, Linda Payne (Wesley); “sister” cousin, Martha Norris; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Omah will be interred in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, beside her beloved Joe. There will be a Celebration of Life service at McFarland United Methodist Church, 101 E. Gordon Ave, Rossville, Ga. 30741 on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 12:00 pm. Service date and time subject to change due to weather. Any updated information can be found at www.mcfarlandumc.org.
