Laura Leigh Smith Campbell, 69, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025.

Leigh was born in Scottsboro, Al., on April 29, 1955, the daughter of the late Alfred Preston Smith, Jr. and Laura Mae Chafin Smith. She was a graduate of City High School, Class of 1973, and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1975, where she was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. Leigh was an avid sports fan and loved following her favorite teams - Lady Vols Basketball, Alabama Football “Roll Tide”, and the Atlanta Braves. Leigh was an amazing friend to everyone she met and for her entire life she was always helping and serving others and taking care of the ones she loved. She loved being called “Gran” and spending time with her grandchildren above everything else. Whether she was texting and calling the grandkids about sports scores, watching their games when they were livestreamed, playing board games, reading books, or just cuddled up in her chair or bed watching cartoons, that is where she loved to be.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Charles Randall “Randy” Campbell; two daughters, Jennifer Campbell Dueker (Chad) and Wendy Campbell Vastano (Andrew); grandchildren, Caleb Vastano, Emersyn Dueker, Maddox Vastano, Everlee Dueker, Judah Vastano, and Henry Dueker; and her brother, Roger Preston Smith (Claire).

A Celebration of Life will be on Friday, Feb. 14, at 1 p.m. on Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Dennie Humphreys officiating. A private interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and Friday, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to her local Delta Alpha Chapter of the Chi Omega Fraternity Alumnae Association. The contributions made will be designated to the “Leigh Smith Campbell Scholarship Fund” that will be set up and presented to an active chapter member. You may either mail your donations to the Chi Omega Alumnae Association at 2020 Lyndon Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37415 or send your Venmo to @ChiOChattAlumnae, placing “Leigh Smith Campbell Scholarship” in the subject line.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Chad Dueker, Andrew Vastano, Caleb Vastano, Maddox Vastano, Rusty Campbell, and Mike Love.
