Julie Ann Sledge, daughter of Tommie L. Sledge (deceased) and Sully Batts, Sr. (deceased), was born on Saturday, July 13, 1963.

The youngest of five children in the Charles and Tommie Sledge household, Julie grew up in the 60s and 70s in the Washington Hills Community of Chattanooga.

Julie attended Lakeside Elementary, Tyner Junior and Senior High Schools. She excelled in post-secondary education, earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She performed exemplary patient care as an RN in various health care settings. She eventually acquired administrative roles at the Hamilton County Health Department and Blue Cross Blue Shield of TN. Throughout Julie’s nursing career she won the trust, respect, and admiration of both patients she served and fellow workers she supervised. Julie was an outstanding nurse and administrator until her failing health prompted retirement.

Julie was the very proud mother of her daughter, Ayla Nicole Sledge Moore and faithful son-in-law Daniel Moore.

Deeply grieving along with Ayla and Daniel are her sisters: Sharon (James – deceased) Smith and Susan (Darnell) Moss; brothers: Donald Sledge, Kelvert Scruggs, Landis Batts, Sully (Valerie) Batts, Jr.; nieces: Kimberly Smith, Tess Smith, LeAndra (Isaac) Williams, Kristal (Sean) Hacker; nephews: Brian Smith, Gerry (Alisha) Davis, Donald Sledge, Jr., Donya Batts; aunt, Phyllis T. Preceding Julie in death are her mother, Tommie L. Sledge; Charles E. Sledge Sr. who helped raise her; father, Sully Batts, Sr.; brother, Charles E. Sledge, Jr.; and special nephew, Charles DeVal Sledge.

Inscribed on Julie’s Bible is the day she prayed and asked Jesus Christ to be her personal Savior: January 2, 1998. Inscribed by the sovereignty of God is the day HE chose to be Julie’s last: February 9, 2025.

Public viewing will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, followed immediately by the funeral service at noon in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., Chattanooga, 423 622-9995.
