HI Memorial has been re-accredited under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, a joint quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery aimed at ensuring the safe and effective performance of metabolic and bariatric surgery. The accreditation is valid for three years.

"This recognition underscores our commitment to improving the lives of individuals struggling with obesity," said Rishabh Shah, MD, bariatric surgeon, CHI Memorial Metabolic and Bariatric Care. "Our multidisciplinary team offers comprehensive surgical and lifestyle support programs designed to help them achieve lasting weight loss and transform their health for a brighter future. As the longest-accredited program in the area by the American College of Surgeons Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, we’re proud to set the standard for quality and patient success.”

Bariatric surgery is the most effective and lasting treatment for severe obesity, yet many patients don’t know they qualify for it. A person could be a candidate for bariatric surgery if:

Your body mass index (BMI) is 40+ (or 35+ with the presence of diabetes, high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, or other serious complications of obesity).

Previous attempts at weight loss have been unsuccessful.

No medical or psychological conditions exist that would interfere with weight loss success.

You are motivated and willing to commit to the lifestyle changes necessary for long-term success.

Surgical outcomes focus on weight loss and the treatment of obesity-related diseases, like diabetes, sleep apnea and others. Research shows accredited centers experience lower complications and better outcomes than that of non-accredited facilities.

CHI Memorial Metabolic and Bariatric Care is at 721 Glenwood Dr., Suite W-550. To learn more, visit ChattanoogaBariatrics.com, or call 698-8692.
