The Overtones Barbershop Quartet Wins Morning Pointe Foundation’s Seniors Got Talent 2024 Best of the Best Contest

  • Tuesday, February 4, 2025
The Overtones barbershop quartet that won the Fifth Annual Morning Pointe Foundation Seniors Got Talent show in Lexington, Ky., has been named Best of the Best of the 2024 season among the nonprofit’s four shows.

The Morning Pointe Foundation invited the public to vote on their favorite winner from the Seniors Got Talent showcases in Lexington, as well as Chattanooga, Franklin and Knoxville.

The quartet’s harmonic performance of “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” came in first place in the Best of the Best contest, which took place from Jan.
1-31 and raised funds for the Foundation in its work of providing caregiver support and student scholarships.

The Overtones comprises members Tom Hart, John Stegner, Matt Toftness and Lew Kelly. The group’s repertoire includes a wide range of music, from the sacred to the silly. They have performed at the Lexington Opera House before, as well as Lexington Legends Ballpark, Kentucky Horse Park and various restaurants and bars.

“We are delighted to be working with the Morning Pointe Foundation through the Seniors Got Talent Program to help support scholarships for aspiring nurses,” said Lew Kelly, speaking for the Overtones. “Our philosophy is, ‘Music is life, and happiness is harmony.’ Thank you to the Morning Pointe Foundation for your efforts to make wonderful things happen.”

Besides winning the title, the Overtones will receive four tickets to a Seniors Got Talent show of their choice and have their full performance posted across all of Morning Pointe Senior Living’s social media pages.

Seniors Got Talent variety shows in each location are open to any talented seniors age 60 and older. Acts have included singers, musicians, dancers, poets, comedians and more.

“Our Seniors Got Talent fans have spoken, and the Overtones is clearly a favorite,” said Miranda Perez, Morning Pointe Foundation executive director. “Congratulations again to these talented gentlemen and to each of our show winners, and thank you to every person who voted and supported our Foundation.”

The dates for the 2025 Morning Pointe Foundation’s Seniors Got Talent shows will be announced soon.

Since its founding in 2014 by Greg A. Vital and Franklin Farrow, the Morning Pointe Foundation has
awarded more than 146 scholarships to nursing students and caregivers, ensuring better care for seniors
across the Southeast.
