Lowell Eugene “Gene” Lee, 90, of Soddy Daisy, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 17, 2025.

A devoted husband, father, friend, and provider, he lived a life rooted in faith, kindness, and service to others.

Gene loved the Lord Jesus Christ, his family, and his friends with all his heart. He was one of the greatest hardware salesmen ever—not just because he knew the business, but because he truly loved helping people. No matter the problem a customer brought through the door, he was always ready to greet them, listen, and find a solution. If he didn’t have what they needed, he wouldn’t just send them elsewhere—he’d call ahead to make sure they’d find it. And he did all of this long before smartphones and search engines.

Born into a family of nine children, Gene carried a lifelong passion for sharing his faith, always encouraging others to come to church. For 58 years, he was a dedicated member of New Salem Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and steadfast servant of God.

Gene spent his career working at Ault Hardware, and later retired from Ace Hardware. But beyond his work, he found joy in gardening—especially when it meant sharing his harvest with widows and those unable to leave their homes.

More than anything, Gene loved his family—his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. His legacy of faith, generosity, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his seven siblings, and most of their spouses.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 70 years, Barbara Lee; his children, Robert E. Lee and his wife Janet, Charles M. Lee and his wife Susan, and Judy D. Lee; his only surviving sibling, Willoden Bearden; two sister-in-laws, Patsy Epperson and Lou Emma Lee; grandchildren, Laura (Nicholas) Melshemer, Robert (Yasmina) Lee II, Johnathan Lee, David (Jennifer) Lee, Daniel (Katie) Lee, and Shelby (Grant) Huber; his beloved great-grandchildren, Nicholas III, Hannah, Willow, Vincent, Sawyer, Aidah, and one little one on the way. A special niece who was like a sister to him, Carolyn Seibold, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, friends and extended family members.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Hearth Hospice team, especially Isaiah, Jennifer, and Sheena, for their loving kindness and support.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Alan Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to New Salem Baptist Church in his memory.

Arrangements by Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 8911 Dallas Hollow Road, Soddy Daisy, Tn. 37379, 423 843-2525.
