Laura "Laurie" Linay Cowart
Laura "Laurie" Linay Cowart, 50, from Signal Mountain, Tennessee, passed on March 15, 2025, from ovarian cancer at home surrounded by her loving family.
Laurie was born in Thousand Oaks, Ca., to Robert and Ailene (Clapp) Berglund. She graduated from Newnan High School in Newnan, Ga., and earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology from Mercer University and in nursing from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, as well as a master's in nursing anesthesia from the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. Laurie met her husband of 25 years, James (Zach) Cowart, while attending Mercer where she was active in the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and new student orientation. Laurie worked as a nurse at Erlanger Hospital and as a nurse anesthetist at Memorial and Parkridge Hospitals before retiring in 2023. Laurie loved her friends and family, crafting, live music, decorating, and shopping. She was a member of Signal Crest United Methodist Church where she and Zach were married in April of 2000.
Remaining to cherish Laurie’s memories are her husband, Zach Cowart; daughters, Harper and Ella Cowart; brother, Daniel Berglund; mother-in-law, Rachel Cowart; father-in-law, Jim Cowart; sisters-in-law Holly Cowart and Courtney Cowart; niece, Tori Li and nephew, Ralston Ligon.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Berglund, and mother, Ailene (Clapp) Berglund.
Funeral services and visitation will take place at Signal Crest United Methodist on Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to World Vision where she sponsored a child, Jebbeh Kamara, in Sierra Leone.
