The fall 2024 Jazz Band performance
The Lee University Jazz Ensemble’s Medium Band, under the direction of Alan Wyatt, will perform on Tuesday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dixon Center on Lee’s campus.
The group will present music by composers such as Dave Samuels, Donald Brown and Mike Mainieri. The program will also feature two pieces arranged by Lee students Jared Anderson and Garett Miller.
Joining this 14-member group for one composition are two guest faculty performers: Dr. Barkey Bryant, professor of trumpet and School of Music recruitment coordinator; and Dr. Doug Warner, professor of trombone and director of applied studies in music.
Lee’s Jazz Ensemble performs traditional and recent literature for the traditional Big Band. The ensemble includes rhythm section instruments, saxophones, trumpets, and trombones. A frequent award winner at national festivals, the group performs for campus, school and civic events.
Mr. Wyatt, associate professor of music, has been teaching and mentoring students at Lee since 1990. He teaches courses such as applied saxophone, commercial music theory and history, and jazz improvisation. He has served as a performer for area jazz festivals and as a clinician, most recently for the Tennessee Music Educators Association as the clinician for the All-State Jazz Band.
The concert is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Livestream viewing will be available at https://leeu.live/.
