Larry William Bates, 83, of Ooltewah, passed away on April 17, 2025, in a local health care facility.

A lifelong resident of Hamilton County, Mr. Bates retired as sales director from Gilman Paint Company after 39 years of service.

He was a member of the Ooltewah United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was an avid traveler and was a Corvette enthusiast.

Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Bates; and sisters, Linda James and Judy Bates.

He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Kim) Bates, Ooltewah and Michael W. Bates; 5 grandchildren, Brandon Bates, Jacqueline Bates, Trevor Bates, Adam Bates, and Evan Bates; nephew, Greg James.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, April 22, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Dr. Tony Wilson officiating,
