The Cleveland State baseball team won their last non-conference game of the season at Carson-Newman junior varsity 8-4.
The Cougars (27-20, 16-11) used nine different pitchers, each getting an inning of work, combining to allow five hits while striking out nine and walking four. Parker Coe (1-0) earned his first victory of the season.
Catcher Ty Denton drove in two runs going 2-3 in the game. Designated hitter and third baseman Dylan Owens also drove in a pair and went 3-5. Centerfielder Nate Dunfee and third baseman Evan Goins were each 2-4 doubling and scoring a run.
The Cougars finish up the regular season at first place Walter State (43-6-1, 22-5) in a three-game series with first pitch Thursday at 2 p.m.
and a double header Friday starting a noon.
