As part of the Scopes100 Centennial Celebration, two debaters from the Bryan College Debate Team will go head-to-head on the issue of School Choice in a debate at the historic Rhea County Courthouse on Thursday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m.
The debate topic is, "Should State and Local Governments Implement a School Voucher Program?"
Officials said, "This debate will explore the benefits and challenges of school voucher programs, which allow public education funds to be used for private school tuition or other education-related expenses.
Supporters argue that vouchers increase access to quality education and promote competition, while critics warn they could weaken public schools and lead to inequities in education."
Meet the debaters:
- Nathanael Butler – a freshman politics & government major, Mr. Butler plans to attend law school. He enjoys singing, coffee and debating, seeing it as a valuable opportunity to sharpen his critical thinking skills. Since joining the Bryan College Debate Team last fall, he has embraced the challenge of presenting well-reasoned arguments on complex issues.
- Ella Lipscomb – A junior majoring in politics & government and history, Ms. Lipscomb is actively involved in cross-country,
worship leadership and crocheting. She has been a dedicated member of the debate team and values the opportunity to engage in intellectual discussions that help her prepare for a career in law. With a passion for policy and justice, she aims to make a strong case for her stance on the issue.
