Bailey Burgess, a senior accounting major at Lee University, has been awarded the annual undergraduate scholarship from the Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance, recognizing her academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to the field of accounting.
The scholarship is given annually to students pursuing a third, fourth, or fifth year toward a degree in accounting or finance. Recipients must demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership, character, and financial need.
“Bailey is an exceptional student whose dedication, character, and leadership are evident in everything she does,” said Dr. Holly Perleoni, associate dean of Lee’s School of Business and an associate professor of marketing. “We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments, and it’s gratifying to see her recognized by AFWA for the excellence we see every day.”
Ms. Burgess, who will graduate in May 2026, has been recognized on campus for her accomplishments, recently earning the Cletus Benton Award for the most outstanding rising senior in Lee’s School of Business. She also serves as a teaching assistant and is a member of the Lady Flames basketball team.
“I’m incredibly honored to receive this scholarship from AFWA,” said Ms. Burgess. “It’s encouraging to be recognized by an organization that is so committed to supporting women in the accounting profession. This award motivates me to keep striving for excellence and to use my education to make a meaningful impact in the field.”
In addition to her studies, Ms. Burgess is interning this summer at an accounting firm in Knoxville.
The AFWA scholarship is administered through The Foundation of AFWA, whose mission is to promote and advance women in accounting and finance by providing access to education and career development resources. The foundation seeks to reduce barriers and ensure women have the tools to succeed professionally.
