Salvation Army Re-Opens Social Services Building, Resumes All Programs

  • Friday, May 16, 2025

After the closure of the Social Services building due to severe flooding resulting in a sewer backup, The Salvation Army is ready to get back to business as usual. All programs offered through Social Services have moved back to 800 McCallie Ave.

After working with the city of Chattanooga to find and fix the issue, cleanup efforts began so that staff and clients could safely return to the building. While the cleanup was a success and the building is safe, a lot of necessary supplies were lost.

“We are grateful to have our Social Services building back in operation, but we are worried about ruined supplies,” said Major Doug McClure, area commander.

The most urgent supplies needed include; toilet paper, paper towels, wash cloths, trash bags and hygiene items for men and women. Coffee supplies and snack items are also needed for ReCreate Cafe. These items support all programs offered through Social Services and the people enrolled in them.
