Arlene Elder Burdette, 94, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

She was a longtime resident of Chattanooga and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Francis C. ”Pat” Burdette, her parents, Lucy and Arlan Elder, and her sister, Hazel Roberts.

Arlene is survived by her three children, Deborah (David) Workman of Birchwood, TN, Michael (Sarah) Burdette of Dutton, AL, and Karen (Terry) Shadix of Harrison, TN; seven grandchildren, Wendy, Holly, Jeff, Chris, Mandy, Andrew and Laura; seven great-grandchildren, Gracie, Maddy, Ashlee, Molly, Connor, Riley and Henry, as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Xander and Ellis Ann.

Arlene worked for many years at Northside Cleaners and retired from JCPenney as a seamstress. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting and listening to bluegrass.

The family would like to say thank you to special friends, Sara Miller, Sue Keith, Ethel McMasters, and Christine Bethune, and would also like to express deep appreciation to the Standifer Place staff and Hearth Hospice.

The family will have a Celebration of Life for Arlene on Friday, May 16, at Harrison Bay State Park Recreation Hall from 2–6 p.m. Arlene and Pat loved visiting family and friends, camping and cooking out. We will have a final picnic for her. All family and friends are welcome.

Arlene will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Chattanooga National Cemetery with her husband.
