Helen Ball, a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, June 8, 2025. She was 94.

Born on September 22, 1930, in Rayle, Ga., to Bennie and Lena Bonner, Helen lived a life full of love, laughter, and resilience. She retired from the Standard Coosa-Thatcher Company after years of dedicated service, known for her strong work ethic and her trademark wit that brought joy to those around her.

Helen was the proud mother of six children. She is survived by Patricia Y. Johnson, Leola (Roland) Jackson, and Eugene Ball (Cynthia). She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse C. Ball; her parents, Bennie and Lena Bonner; her children Jessie Ball, JoAnn Ball, and Leon “Sarge” Ball; her siblings Ervin Bonner Sr., Bennie J. Bonner, Sara Jackson, Lester Bonner, and Eugene Bonner; and her grandchildren Vardon Jackson and NiTasha Ball.

Helen had a remarkable way of bringing people together. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting aromas of her delicious soul food. She had a green thumb and found joy in nurturing her plants. She also loved playing cards, listening to Rhythm & Blues, and spending quality time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Helen’s vibrant personality and joyful spirit were anchored by her favorite saying: “Let the good times roll.” And in everything she did, she truly lived those words.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children; her sister Doris (Buster) Hull; her devoted grandchildren: Roland (Sharita) Jackson, Ray (Nova) Young, Bryant (Torial) Young, Travis Ball, Victor (Yolanda) Jackson, Jeff Ball (Tiffany), Eugenia (Willie) Stewart, Gregory Thomas, Patrick (Kesha) Thomas, and Leundra Ward; 45 great-grandchildren and 36 great-great-grandchildren—each of whom she loved deeply and who brought her endless joy.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to NHC of Chattanooga for the compassionate care Helen received, with special appreciation to CNA Tameka Trimble for her kindness and attentiveness. Deep gratitude is also given to Hospice of Chattanooga for their support and loving care during Helen’s final days, ensuring she was surrounded by peace, comfort, and dignity.

Helen leaves behind a legacy of strength, humor, and love that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

Public viewing will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, June 20, at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 914 Park Avenue, 37403, followed by a 1 p.m. funeral service. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.
