Loretta Elizabeth Mayfield Owens
Loretta Elizabeth Mayfield Owens was born on April 15, 1947, in Pell City, Alabama, to the late Lula Mae Crowe and Frank Mayfield. She peacefully transitioned from this life on June 22, 2025, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at the age of 78.
Loretta was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. She was a woman of unwavering faith, known for her sharp wit, honesty, elegance, and strength. She earned her degree in cosmetology and fulfilled her dream of working in a local salon. Loretta's contagious laugh, resilience, and love for her family will never be forgotten.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Lula Mae Crowe and Frank Mayfield of Pell
City, AL; brother, Bobby Crowe (Chicago), sister, Geraldean "Jerry" Hyter (Chattanooga); her beloved companion, Henry Christian, and her great grandson Savon Jones Jr. (Chattanooga).
She was united in marriage to the late Private Herman R. Owens, and from their union came one daughter, Shineena Owens. She was the proud grandmother of four: TaSherryia (Sherri) Owens, LeDarius Owens, Angelique Owens, and Victoria Lewis; a devoted great-grandmother to 13 great-grandchildren.
She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will carry her legacy forward with love and joy.
Public viewing will begin at 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, at the funeral home.
A celebration of Loretta’s remarkable life will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 4100 Hughes Ave., Chattanooga.
Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery, with gate time at 2 p.m..
