Melvin Thomas Petty, 76, of Soddy Daisy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

He was a 1967 graduate of Soddy Daisy High School. Melvin served his country in the U.S. Navy where he was part of the Fleet Angels Helicopter Air Rescue HC-2 U.S. Naval Aviation CV-67 on the USS John F. Kennedy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Soddy Masonic Lodge #418 F&AM for 52 years. He retired with over 40 years from the U.S. Post Office. Melvin was a member of Rechoboth Baptist Church.

was preceded in death by his parents, Montague Chamberlain Petty and Goldie Elizabeth Neal Petty and grandchildren, Sierra Carpenter and Kaleb Millard.

Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Nelda Sue Sutherland Petty; children, Shannon Shaver (Jeffrey), Traci Petty, Michelle Hamby (Randy), Terry Cramer (Kristie); grandchildren, Houston Shaver, Maci Shaver, Skye Millard, Brandi Smith, Tiffany Garrett, Samantha Cramer; two great-granddaughters, four great grandsons; sister, Anita Sherrill Brown (Shirley); several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 7, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will be on Tuesday, July 8, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Alan Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
