On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Tennessee will be holding their annual luncheon in Chattanooga at the Black Horse Inn (Martin House) at noon.
A national officer from the General Society of Mayflower Descendants in Plymouth Massachusetts, Mr. Roger L. Young (Secretary General of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants), and Governor of the Tennessee Society will be in attendance.
A business meeting will take place, and Tennessee officers will be voted on and sworn in during the meeting.
Following the meeting and luncheon Ms. Patricia Glass from the Chattanooga Regional History Museum will be the guest speaker discussing the history of the Martin House.
The Society is comprised of descendants who have proven lineage from those original Pilgrims who came to the new world in 1620 aboard the ship Mayflower.
Most Americans have heard the Pilgrim story of the first Thanksgiving on the American continent celebrated by our Pilgrim, and Native American ancestors celebrating their survival in the new world even though they faced continual trials. The Society strives to keep the memory of our countries Pilgrim's alive through, books, genealogy publications, and information to schools for teaching about these early Americans.
Before the Pilgrims left the ship they signed what is referred to as the Mayflower Compact outlining their common interest in forming a body politic. When the U.S. Constitution was written the Compact was cited as an example of a government by, and for the people.
