The 5th Grade Class at CSAS held a graduation ceremony for its DARE program Thursday. The DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program teaches children to resist drugs and violence.
Sgt. Sam Madison of the Chattanooga Police Department was honored by the 5th grade students and their teachers for his many years of service as head of the DARE unit. Sgt. Madison is retiring after this year.
Fifth grade student Nathan Moore introduced the guest speaker, news anchor David Carroll of Channel 3 TV.
Grovenia Perryman was the winner of the DARE essay contest. Runners-up were Elizabeth Andrews and Shaylan Allen.
Mr. Carroll and Sgt. Madison joined with fifth grade teachers Wendy Ross, Brad Goodson and Rick Metzger to pass out graduation certificates to the students.
Sgt. Sam Madison, head of the local DARE unit, helps students Marijiah Bowman, Sarah Evatt and Perry Williams lead the DARE pledge.
