Joseph Paul Faulkner, 75, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in a local hospital.
Mr. Faulkner was a faithful member and deacon of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church as well as a member of the James Sunday School Class.
He was born on Feb. 25, 1929, in Chattanooga, but soon after he and his family moved to Jellico, TN.
While growing up in Jellico, he attended Jellico High School, where he served as captain of the football team and from which he graduated in 1949.
While living in Jellico he served as an active member and as deacon of the First Baptist Church. In the early 1970s he was a member of the Campbell County School Board and the chairman of the Election Commission.
He was a 32nd-degree Mason of Jellico Lodge 527 F&AM. After moving to Chattanooga he transferred his membership to Whorley Lodge 601 F&AM and was also a member of the Alhambra Shrine Temple.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Faulkner and Dusta Leasch Faulkner; and his siblings, Martha Faulkner, Jimmy Faulkner, Robert Lee Faulkner, Sr., and Mary Cate and Johnny Faulkner.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Mays Faulkner; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret F. and William R. Long, Sr.; daughter, Madeline F. Ellis; grandchildren, Kimberly Long Baucom and husband, Bradley E. Baucom, William R. Long Jr. and wife, Amanda J. Long, and Ta mara Jo Ellis and Justin Joe Ellis, both of Chattanooga; sister, Clara Beair, Springfield, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Brainerd Hills Baptist Church with Dr. C. Richard Mason officiating.
Interment will be in Westview Cemetery.
Mr. Faulkner will lie in state at the church one hour before the service.
