Taught Chemistry And Math In Many Schools And Colleges

Pastor Robert R. Mehling, 84, of Ooltewah, died Monday, March 8, 2004, in a local health care facility.

He was a native of Hardin, Mt. and had lived in the Chattanooga area for several years.

He was a chemistry and math teacher for several schools and colleges including Walla Walla College in Washington, Kingsway College in Oshawa, Canada, Valley Grande Academy in Texas, Jefferson Academy in Jefferson, Texas, and Chisholm Trail Academy in Keene, Texas.

He obtained his Masters and enjoyed speaking in numerous colleges.

He was a former Research Scientist for Loma Linda Foods in Riverside, Calif.

He was a former Pastor for the Seguin Seventh-Day Adventist Church and Atlanta and Marietta Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Texas.

Mr. Mehling was a member of the McDonald Road Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he was an Elder welcoming new members. He was involved in the Silverdale Prison Ministry and enjoyed helping youngsters read at Ooltewah Seventh-Day Adventist School.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Rick Mehling; children, Douglas Robert Mehling of Tyler, Texas, and Donna Irene Ehrlich of Collegedale; brothers and sisters, Vera Robertston of Long View, Wa., Clara Toews of San Diego, Calif., Bill Mehling of Portland, Or., Sam Mehling of Washington, Bert Mehling of Oregon, John Mehling of Washington, Lillian Stutz of Washington; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the McDonald Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Elder Don Gettys officiating.

The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.

Burial will follow in the Collegedale Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
